Privacy

The only photo sharing app that gives you face detection without sacrificing privacy?

How we keep your personal data safe while still giving you cool stuff like face detection.

When we built Keepsake, we faced a choice that every photo app faces: how do we help you find photos of yourself without becoming creepy?

We chose privacy by design. Let me explain exactly how it works.

What Actually Happens When You Upload a Selfie

When you take or upload a selfie to help Keepsake find photos of you at events, here's what happens:

  1. Your selfie stays on your phone or computer. We never see it, nor do we ever want to - regardless of how attractive you are.
  2. Your device does all the face detection work. When you browse event photos, your phone or computer downloads those photos and analyses them locally using face detection technology which runs COMPLETELY on your device.
  3. The matching happens entirely on your device. Your device compares faces in event photos against your selfie, all in your phone's memory. This is like your phone doing a quick mental comparison. The better your phone hardware, the more efficient the matching, but don't worry, it works great on lower end devices too.
  4. We never see the comparison. Our servers have no idea which faces matched yours. They never receive face data, facial measurements, or anything about how you look.

What This Actually Means

Think of it like this: It's the difference between sending your diary to someone to read versus reading it yourself in your own room.

Your device is the room. The face detection is you reading. We're not in the room, and we never see what you're reading.

What We DO Store (Being Completely Honest)

We want to be crystal clear about what data we actually have:

  • Event information: What events you create or join, who you invite, basic account details (username and email address). Checkout our Privacy Policy for more information.

What we DON'T have:

  • Face measurements, facial landmarks, or biometric data
  • Information about which faces in photos matched yours
  • Any processing or analysis of faces on our servers
  • Media in the shared gallery

Why We Built It This Way

Honestly? Because it's what we'd feel comfortable using ourselves, and because we could. It just felt right.

Modern phones and computers are incredibly powerful. They can run complex face detection algorithms faster than you can blink. So why send sensitive data to a server and sacrifice your privacy?

It also makes our app faster for you. No waiting for server processing. No sending data back and forth. Just instant, private face matching.

Our Promise

We won't change this approach without telling you explicitly and giving you a choice. If we ever decided to do server-side face detection (we have no plans to), we'd:

  1. Tell you clearly
  2. Make it opt-in only
  3. Explain exactly why and what changed

Your trust matters more to us than any feature we could build.

Questions?

If you have any questions about how Keepsake handles your data, we're happy to answer them honestly. You can reach us at support@keepsakeapp.io.

We built Keepsake because we wanted a better way to share event photos. We built it with privacy in mind because we're users too, and we care about where our data goes.
